Most Rev. Archbishop John Barwa SVD is a prominent figure in the Catholic Church, known for his unwavering commitment to social justice, interfaith harmony, and the welfare of marginalized communities in India. Born on June 15, 1956, in Kunkuri, Jashpur district, in the state of Chhattisgarh, India, John Barwa joined the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), a missionary congregation, in 1977. His journey towards priesthood and subsequently to the episcopate reflects a life dedicated to serving others, particularly the underprivileged.
Barwa's early years in the priesthood were marked by his dedication to the tribal communities of India.
